YOUR MONITOR - pixels per inch and colour!

Monitors show colours differently. Depending upon brightness, contrast and other settings and the age of the monitor, you will see the colours on a web site slightly differently from the way they are seen on a different monitor. The "web-safe" colours come closest to consistant appearance, but cannot be guaranteed due to individual monitor settings.

Resolution describes the level of detail in an image in terms of dots per inch or pixels per inch.
Common PC resolutions include:
640 pixels by 480 pixels ( appropriate for a 14-inch monitor)
800 by 600 (appropriate for a 15-inch monitor)
1,024 by 768 (appropriate for a 17-inch monitor)
1,280 by 1,024 (appropriate for 19 inch monitor)
This site looks best at 1024 x 768 ppi

You can control which resolution your monitor shows at any given time. This is done in the Display area of your Control Panel.

COLOURS

The 216 web safe colours were once the only way to go to ensure consistent viewing. This is no longer the case with the improvement of monitors.
Colours are designated as either HEX (ie. #6600CC) or RGB (ie. R 102, G 000, B 204)
